Dysfunction Urodynamics is the study of nerve and muscle actions of your bladder and its outlet. It is an attempt to duplicate your urinary symptoms and determine the cause of your complaint. Urodynamic study involves different tests, sometimes conducted in combination. Uroflow TestDuring this test you will be asked to urinate into a special receptacle. Depending on your complaint you might have a catheter inserted into your bladder after urinating. The catheter will tell your doctor if your bladder empties total after urination. Cystometrogram (CMG) and Electromyography (EMG)During these procedures you will have a catheter inserted into your bladder. This catheter allows fluid to be put into your bladder and then measure the pressure increase that occurs. After the catheter is inserted, sticky patches will be placed on your thigh and on either side of your rectum. These patches in turn will be connected to an EMG machine. The EMG records the electrical activity of muscles in the area. All of the above devices are connected to a central computer which records measurements
and organizes information that your doctor can analyze, while monitoring your bladder
function on an X-ray Fluoroscope. |
