Erectile dysfunction (impotence) affects at least 10% of all men, and over 50% of men over age 50. Risk factors include diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure, circulation disorders, cigarette smoking, high cholesterol, medication side effects, and hormone imbalances, among many others. An ever-widening array of treatment options is available, such that nearly all men suffering from erection problems can be successfully treated. These treatments include oral medicines (we expect FDA approval of a new, very effective pill in April '98), injectable medicines, a urethral suppository, non-invasive vacuum devices, and penile implants. A comprehensive, office-based evaluation is available for specific diagnosis of a man's
problem, allowing the physician to make specific recommendations for successful treatment.
The cost of the evaluation, and, in most cases, of the treatments, are covered by
most insurance plans. |
